I listen to the gentle murmuring voice
Of our city, awake despite the hour
And I linger, unwilling to return
To the television world inside — droolingmonkey

Trucking around:)

I flew from OKlahoma to DC and then Boston..and I was met at the airport by Shovel,James long time friend. We drove through the busy (terrifying) freeways at night and finally found an Applebees..my favourite resturant on earth.Eventually getting back to his house late at night.I was exhausted and slept for almost 2 days.
Then the truck was loaded up and off we went all the way to Atlanta! The trip took 4 days, driving through beautiful NC and Virginia, stopping for yummy breakfasts of bacon and eggs and hash browns..and dinners of steaks and BLTs.Ive become so hungry!! LOL I took lots of amazing pics and bought tees for Jake and Luke in Knoxville Tenessee, and beanie babies for Ez..I developed a deep respect for truckers.
Their job is so hard, keeping that huge truck on the road, backing into a *hole* to load and unload, driving for hrs at a time..driving all thru the night until they finally find a truck stop only to discover that its full so they have to stop on the side of the road just to sleep. They all have a sceret code where they let each other into the lanes, tell each other where the cops are, check to make sure each other is ok,say what the weather is like ahead. In Atlanta, late at night,it began to rain...so hard you couldnt see anything in front of you.Ive never seen rain like it and cars were hiding under bridges but we carried on,slowly but surely and I was amazed at the skill of these drivers..I grew to love the truck.I didnt realise how noisy it was with the hissing of brakes, the trucks are never turned off and after thinking I could never sleep with the noise,I actually was lulled into deep sleep on my bunk.
The truck stops have clean showers and provide towels and after that and breakfast, getting back into the truck and heading out again is great. Its a hard life tho.At one rest area,I walked the dog while Shovel slept in the afternoon and i watched as all the trucks pulled in.The drivers would get out, hardly able to walk, stretching their legs, breathing some fresh air, catching a couple hrs sleep and back on the road again. And I realised that not all trucks are the same! Theres peterbuilts, kenworths, internationals etc and I was pleased to know that his truck is a new shiny white huge truck ..one of the biggest and strongst.I am impressed with trucking and the life they live, tho I sure couldnt do it forever.
Last weekend I went with another friend to Cape Cod to visit his daughter.I loved the Cape..its so gorgeous. His daughter is a bright, intelligent, loving 10yr old and I loved spending the day with her.The shops there were all alternative lifestyle ppl, artists, musicians, ppl who had escaped New York in the late 70s..I have a wonderful day and am so thankful to the guys who are taking such good care of me.
My life is good and God is blessing me greatly...And Im happy:)
